Raising Attainment in Computing

We live in a computer-based world. It is absolutely vital that our children understand how computers work, how to use them, and how to stay safe around them. This INSET day will look at all aspects of the computer curriculum, as well as how to use technology to support and inspire learning across the curriculum. Our INSET days are available in-school, via livestream, or delivered with a blend of an on-demand recorded training course (of your choice) followed by time with our consultant in person or via a live link.

  • Requirements and misconceptions in the national curriculum for computing
  • The difference between computer science and digital literacy and how children can achieve high standards in both
  • Ways to use computers and computing in other subjects

About this INSET

The 2014 Curriculum renamed “ICT” as “Computing” and shifted the emphasis considerably towards the programming aspects of computer science. One negative of this otherwise-welcome change was a drop in the time spent using and applying computer software for research, presentation and other skills. This INSET day, part of our Beyond the Core portfolio, explores ways to raise standards in both of those areas. The training will:

  • Increase your confidence in programming concepts and terminology
  • Offer easy-to-implement strategies and activities to improve teaching and learning
  • Explore computing in the context of “cultural capital” and Ofsted’s new Inspection Framework
  • Enable your school to continue its journey towards excellence.
