There are many models for curriculum planning and design, but the one Ofsted uses “in-house” draws on the idea of “composite” and “component” knowledge. This training explores what that means, and how it can be used to improve teaching and learning in any subject.

Objectives:

• Understand what composite and component knowledge is and how identifying it can support both curriculum planning (intent) and curriculum delivery (pedagogy). 
• Explore how Ofsted may unpick Composite and Component knowledge when inspecting your curriculum, under the Quality of Education judgement
• Improve understanding of important concepts related to curriculum design, such as knowledge progression, disciplinary knowledge and sequencing of concepts
• Help your staff make clearer links to prior knowledge, as part of a clear curriculum rationale
