Around 30% of primary pupils don’t start secondary school with the expected standard in English, maths or both – so what can we do to support them? Our proven strategies will help you support those pupils who need it most – improving maths skills, knowledge and reasoning, writing ability and expanding their vocabulary, and improving reading skills to help them access the wider curriculum.
As pupils move into secondary schools, some are very well prepared – others are likely to struggle because of gaps in their knowledge (that can happen for a wide range of reasons). In this course, we aim to give secondary teachers – particularly those in KS3 – a range of practical activities that can help to plug those gaps, increase student vocabulary breadth, improve confidence in reading and writing – and develop mathematical thinking that will combine to support their learning in other subjects as well.
