Ten Ways to Use Drama to Develop Reading Skills

Using drama games and techniques can be a great way to motivate learners to read. They can begin to see texts in action; play with stories and characters; and develop a sense of ownership of the stories, as well as empathy with characters.

About this INSET

When we teach, we are to some extent putting on a performance and this is a chance to develop those drama skills to excite and develop a sense of wonder in our learners. 

This INSET will provide you with:

  • Practical games to use as a way into reading.
  • Drama strategies to use with long and short stories to suit any age.
  • Ways to use drama to provoke thinking around specific reading questions.
