I came to teaching after a career in radio journalism, and I am passionate about the need for good communication skills in the classroom - not just for teachers, but for children as well.
One of our mantras at TT Education is that ‘talk is thought’ - that only by talking things through will children truly understand what they’re learning. I am passionate about developing children’s vocabulary and comprehension skills across the curriculum and beyond. Ultimately, I believe that all education - and all CPD - should be child-focused.
I worked for several years as a class teacher in particularly disadvantaged areas of the north east of England, before leading on Maths in a medium-sized school in Newcastle. That role really opened my eyes to two things: the impact of good leadership; and the benefits of excellent and sustained CPD. So it was an obvious choice to work for TT Education, who are passionate about both.
I am now able to model and share best practice from around the country, empowering leaders and teachers to develop their children’s potential. What I love about TT Education, though, is that it goes further: it offers ongoing support to ensure sustained improvement over time.
I have excellent subject knowledge across the Curriculum, but particularly in Maths and English, History and Music. I am an experienced middle leader, and I have worked for several years in settings with a large EAL population.
I am a people person and enjoy anything that can be done with friends: walking and camping, socializing, film, theatre, art and museums. As a believer in life-long learning and personal development, I enjoy reading non-fiction. I also love to listen to music of all genres.
My favourite thing of all is to spend time with my wife and our three amazing, inspiring daughters.
